BIMCO's Chief Shipping Analyst Peter Sand will attend the Smart Maritime Network – Copenhagen Conference on 6 October as a panelist at 03:55PM. Peter Sand and other experts will discuss the "Role of Leaders and Policy Makers in Digital Trade" and will touch upon the following topics:

-         Building a coherent and comprehensive approach to digital transformation

-         Leveraging return on investment

-         The importance of purpose in a digital transformation strategy

The shipping industry is being closely watched right now, to see how we will react to and tackle the increasingly critical, and fast approaching, goals set out in the Paris Agreement. Even more so now that the European Commission has unveiled its “Fit for 55” ambitious blueprint - aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union by 55% by 2030, whilst setting Europe on the path to becoming climate-neutral by 2050.

Digital innovation is going to provide a clearer pathway to achieving these goals but will require an acceleration of development and adoption of viable technologies, as well as increased coordination, standardisation and collaboration – both within the shipping industry itself and also with external stakeholders in the wider transport and logistics chain.

Two inevitable factors – cost impact and the human element - are once again at the forefront of any decision making. Thus, the role of leaders and policy makers is ever more in the spotlight; the long-term sustainability of our industry requires decisive and impactful action around the role of technology to create value in both of these key areas. SMN’s return to Copenhagen will provide us with the opportunity to investigate the intersection between digitalisation and sustainability and will be a platform upon which to review and discuss ideas and solutions impacting the future of shipping
